Obituary

Althea C. Carpenter, 90, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Born on May 24, 1927, Althea was a longtime resident of Odessa. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Robert G. Carpenter. She is survived by a son, Steven R. Carpenter (Jerry Arrasmith, deceased April 20, 2017) of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Gail E. Carpenter (Monica Powers) of Odessa, and Mary S. (David R.) Wolfe of Montour Falls. Althea was a member of the Odessa-Catharine United Methodist Church for 71 years, where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women, as well as a Sunday School Teacher, and youth group leader. In addition to being involved in all church functions, Althea was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Odessa Food Pantry, Dutton S. Peterson Memorial Library, and the American Red Cross. Althea was a graduate of the Elmira Business Institute, and worked as a legal secretary before devoting herself to raising her three children. She had a passion for baking, gardening, bird watching, music, reading, and serving her community. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00 am at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Vedder and Scott Funeral Home in Montour Falls. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Odessa-Catharine United Methodist Church, Dutton S. Peterson Memorial Library or the American Red Cross.
