Beulah attended Candor High School, graduating with the Class of 1942. She had a long and varied career, working at Boat Rentals, Spencer Lake; Bosch & Lomb, Rochester, NY; Smith & Corona, Cortland, NY; along with Jamesway and NCR in Ithaca, NY.
Boots, as she was lovingly nicknamed by her father, Robert Benjamin, was a strong, honest, hardworking woman who loved her family deeply. She enjoyed life, especially when playing euchre games. Boots was always excited to have family gatherings and family reunions. There was always food to cook, pies to bake, and fresh fruits to be canned or made into jams – and everyone had plenty. She shared her love of healthy gardening with the family – organic was a thing before stores labeled their food organic. We all learned to find wild strawberries in fields and ditches just by smelling the air; they were small and a lot of work but made a wonderful jam. Mom loved the outdoors and nature. Mom's adventurous spirit took her and dad traveling the United States along with five children in a 1959 Chevy hauling a camper. When the sun was shining, she would be outside soaking up the sun and watching the clouds. She enjoyed horseshoe games, Jarts, and snowmobiling as well. Most of all, she and dad loved to dance. The music could be the polka or a square dance. But her favorite joy was holding on to Charlie, her husband of 62 years, as he would give her a whirl around the dance floor to the tunes of old-time country music. Time seemed to stand still as they held hands and devoted time to each other.
Boots and her sisters were characters, and mom would reminisce about the crazy times they shared.
Their sense of humor kept everyone lighthearted and laughing, like playing "itchy, citchy-coo", a made-up initiation game for any boy that showed interest in one of the daughters. Then there was the time the sisters would show up at a gathering unexpectedly having bought the same shirt and looking alike. Those days and years with mom will be fondly remembered. Rest in peace, mom.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cayuga Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Hospice & Palliative Care Services of Ithaca for their kindness.
Beulah will be laid to rest on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 11:30 am in Evergreen Cemetery, Spencer, NY.
