Obituary

Cynthia Jo Pinkard (Smith, Armstrong) Cyndy gained her wings on Monday, April 11, 2016. She was born October 31, 1958 in Waverly, NY, and raised in Ithaca, NY, joining the USAF in 1978. Cyndy was among the first women to not only be active duty but involved in law enforcement. Cyndy married her first husband Jerry Armstrong and had four children. Divorced and raising her four children with the help of her mother in law Jean, Cyndy met her second husband, Jim Pinkard, together they had twins. The family settled for a time in California where Cyndy became a 411 operator. Moving to New York to care for her aging mother, Cyndy found herself surrounded by wonderfully caring friends working at Home Depot as "the Paint Lady", and at the Monterey Vol. Fire dept. Cyndy is survived by her husband of 25 years James Pinkard, her 6 children, Rebecca Connelly (Armstrong) (husband Jim Connelly), Jennifer Armstrong, Michael Armstrong, Elizabeth Armstrong, Matthew Pinkard, Jonathan Pinkard; her wonderful grandchildren, Christopher Connelly, Alexander Connelly, and Colin Connelly; her in-laws Becky and James Pinkard; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Cyndy was predeceased by her mother, Joan C. Smith (Cox), father Richard Smith, adopted mother Billie Jean (Finch) Armstrong, and mother in law, Elaine Pinkard. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 2-5 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. Services will follow at 5 pm.
