Dale Herbert Smith, age 86, formerly of Odessa, NY passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Dale was born in Elmira, NY on September 16, 1938, to the late Basil and Elizabeth P. (Kimes) Smith.

He is predeceased by his first wife, Elfreide H. Smith, who was the mother of his children; second wife, Kate Smith; and sons, Donald J. Smith and Robert B. Smith; along with several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Ricky (Diane) Smith, Tammy (George) Cutter, Nancy (Jim) Brown, and Tony (Doris) Smith; stepchildren, Dennis Seymour, Darryl Seymour, Billy Seymour (Lissa Fivie), and Peggy (Keith) Jelliff, along with their spouses; several nieces and nephews; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dale attended Odessa-Montour School District, leaving his studies early to serve in the United States Army after World War II. He attained his GED while still in the service, and went on to a 30+ year career as a union electrician for Local #241, often working on facilities projects on the Cornell University campus. Dale prided himself on being a 'jokester' and liked to keep busy with hands-on projects, notably flipping houses and working on cars in his younger days. He was a well-known lover of ice cream, and although he was a stoic man - he was also a very loving father.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 12-4pm at the Montour Moose Lodge #426, 2096 State Route 14, Montour Falls, NY, 14865. The gathering will honor both Dale and his late son Robert, who passed away on May 23, 2023.
