David L. Sidle, 84, of Alpine, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Friday, September 28, 2018. He was born in Sempronius, NY on August 16, 1934; the son of the late Charles and Beatrice Sidle. Dave graduated from Odessa Central School and served with the US Army from 1955-1956. On January 2, 1960, he married the former, Sandra Wickham in the Odessa Baptist Church. After being honorably discharged from the army, he worked for New York Telephone Company, Sherwin Williams, and the Schuyler County Sheriff Department. He went on to work as an insurance adjuster before establishing the David L. Sidle Agency, Inc. He was the president of the agency until 2007. As a member of the Odessa Baptist Church, Dave was active as a Sunday school teacher, Trustee, Deacon, and choir member. He was former President of the Watkins-Montour Rotary, and past Commander of the Odessa American Legion Post 676. He was active as a Scout Master, later served as the Chairman for the Seneca Drums District of the Boy Scouts of America, and served as Chair of the 4-H Horse Committee. David was active in the Professional Insurance Agents of NY, serving on its board of directors. He served in many capacities in the Schuyler County community including; County and State Republican Committee, Moose, Elks, Royce Fund, Chamber of Commerce, United Fund, and the Schuyler Historical Society. David is survived by his children, Diana (David) VanLoon of Mansfield, PA, Margaret (Anthony) Manning of Frederick, MD, Karen (Donny) Gunning of Trumansburg, and David (Sharon) Sidle of Trumansburg; brothers-in-law, Delvan Decker of Martinsville, VA, David (Terry) Wickham of Tularosa, NM, and John (Jackie) Wickham of Alpine; 21 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Sandra in 2014, brother Joseph Sidle in 1958, and by his sister Patricia Decker in 2017. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 4-7 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, 221 W. South St. Montour Falls. Burial with full military honors will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Odessa Baptist Church-Capital Building Project Fund, P.O.
