Dorothy A. Hayes, 90, formerly of Ithaca, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility in Montour Falls. She was born in Montour Falls on May 15, 1925, the daughter of the late Clarence and Wilda (Hern) Hayes. Dorothy graduated from Odessa High School and was an Administrative Assistant at Cornell University for over 50 years. She had a lifelong love of horses and enjoyed horseback riding and genealogy. She was predeceased by her brothers, John and C. Ralph "Skip" Hayes; brother-in-law, Robert Morris, and best friend of 27 years, her horse, Banner Lad. She is survived by her sister, Jean Morris of Seneca Falls; sisters-in-law, Jewell Hayes of Mt. Upton, NY and Margie Hayes of Watkins Glen; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy will be laid to rest in Laurel Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Cornell University Equine Research Park, or the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes.
