Douglas J. Eggersdorf, 65, of Newfield, NY passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Bampa’s House in Corning, NY.
Doug was born to David J. & Phyllis (Benson) Eggersdorf in Montour Falls, NY, on February 10, 1961, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1979.
Doug was a ‘born mechanic’, following in his father & 3 older brother’s footsteps. Many vehicles were torn apart, fixed and put back together! He and our father built a tractor from many different vehicles. His co-worker named it the ‘Franken-tractor’!
He worked for American LaFrance in Elmira, and Shepard Niles Crane & Hoist in Montour Falls. He would later become employed in Ithaca, as a maintenance worker, mostly up in Collegetown, for 40 years. His most recent employment was for Ashley Management Group, and received his 15 year award. He worked hard and was always willing to help someone out, or show new employees how to fix things. Even when he wasn’t feeling good, he still showed up and did his job. Whenever anyone, family or not, had an issue with something electrical, plumbing, furnace, building a shed, or most anything, he was right there to help fix it!
He loved riding motorcycles. He and brother Gene started riding on the benefit rides such as the American Pride Ride, the Troop Ride, the Cops, Kids & Toys ride, and a few other benefit rides. Doug only missed 3 or 4 of the American Pride Rides in 30 years! He became an Outrider. Sister Emily was his passenger and co-outrider for many years. He got our Mom to go for her first motorcycle ride when she turned 70! She loved it!
Doug was an avid NASCAR fan! He AND our Mom loved Jeff Gordon! Between them, they had nearly every piece of memorabilia there was! After Jeff retired from racing, Doug became a Chase Elliott fan.
Doug is survived by sister, Emily Kerns (Randy Fish), brothers Ronald (Pat Dense), and Bernard; nieces Veronica, Tammy, Carrie & Alicia, nephew Shaun, and cousin, Stella. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Leslie in 1967, brother-in-law Owen Kerns in 1996, sister-in-law, Kathy Eggersdorf in 2006, grandparents, and beloved cat, Princess.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, July 24, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY. His funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Burial in Montour Cemetery.
