Douglas Edward Mathews, 58, of Ithaca, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. He was born in Montour Falls on April 20, 1963, the son of Owen and Julia Mathews and graduated from Odessa Montour High School. Doug was a project manager in the construction industry for 15 years and most recently worked as a service manager for Maguire Automotive in Ithaca. He was a member of His Tabernacle Ithaca. Doug was a sports enthusiast, and an avid Syracuse Orange basketball and football fan. He loved college football GameDay! He is survived by his sons, Jonathan Mathews of Knoxville, TN and Michael Mathews of Charlotte, NC; father, Owen Mathews of Watkins Glen; four brothers, Brian (Janet) Mathews of Watkins Glen, Ronald (Mary) Mathews of Ithaca, Alan (Nancy) Mathews of Horseheads and Gregory (Diana) Mathews of Virginia Beach, VA; and sister, Brenda Thurston of Daytona Beach, FL. He was predeceased by his mother, Julia (Scanlon) Mathews in 2020. A private memorial service will be held by the family.
