Helen Messersmith, age 92, of Alpine, NY, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Friday, December 21, 2012. Helen was born June 23, 1920 to the late Mark and Adelia Cook in Tunkhannock, PA. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Duke Messersmith, daughter Donalee Messersmith, sister Doris Dibble, and brothers Don Cook and Loyd Cook. Helen is survived by her son Don Messersmith Jr. and Noel Lewis, brother Olin and Martha Cook and nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen graduated from high school in 1938 and worked for Thatcher Glass and for Cotton Hanlon for 32 years as the bookkeeper. Helen enjoyed quilting with her many friends. She enjoyed traveling, from day trips to around the world, Europe and Holland and the great parks of the United States with her special traveling friends Phylis Bailey and Mable Wood. Helen touched many lives with her sweet little lady ways, her caring smiles and an occasional quilt for special friends. Per Helen's wishes there will be no calling hours or services.
