Jesse S. Tompkins, 93, of Alpine, NY, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his wife, Elaine and daughter, Sharon Gauvin. He was born in Alpine to Ira and Nellie Tompkins. Mr. Tompkins was a veteran of WWII, serving in Europe as a Military Policeman. He was a life member of the VFW in Ithaca and a member of the American Legion in Trumansburg. He retired in 1981 as a foreman with the Dyer-Fitts Construction Company of Binghamton. Jesse is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Donald) Parshall of Spencer, Helen "Jeannie" Gaffney of Puyallup, WA, Laura (Larry) Lockwood of Newfield, and Bonnie Steinberg of Dunedin, FL. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and close friends, Dennis and Karen Mann. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11:00 am at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. Burial with full military honors will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Care First Hospice, 3805 Meads Creek Rd., Painted Post, NY 14870.
