JoAnn P. Caslin

JoAnn Caslin, age 84 of Reading, PA formerly of Burdett New York, passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2026 surrounded by family.

JoAnn was born in Elmira New York, the third child of what would become a family of 14 brothers and sisters. She was the daughter of the late John Hinderliter and Jeuillie Engle Hinderliter.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband Mert Belknap (2001) and most recently her husband of 21 years Gerald "Jud" Caslin (2023). In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by four sisters, Penny Keegan, Joan Strong, Joy Carlyle and Cherie David; and three brothers, Donny Keegan, Demi Keegan and Jack Hinderliter.

She is survived by her daughters, Traci (Michael) McClernon Sr. of Reading, PA; Teresa (Harry) Moll of Hubert, NC and Tiffany (Ron) Switzer of Bertram, TX; granddaughters, MaryJo McClernon of Rochester, NY, Alya Belknap of Reading, PA and Sarah McClernon of Shannon, NC; grandsons, Merit Moll of South Carolina, Soyer Moll of North Carolina, William Shaw of Texas and Mike McClernon Jr. of PA; several great grandchildren; sisters, Donna (Roger) DeWolfe of Corning, NY, Jeuillie (Ed) Macey of Albany, NY, Susan Keegan also of Albany, NY; brothers Mike Keegan of Arizona, Danny Keegan of Montour Falls, NY, and Sean (Brenda) Keegan of Dundee, NY; and by many nieces and nephews.

JoAnn attended Thomas A Edison High School in Elmira, New York and went on to serve her country as a medic in the US Army. She was attached to the 97th Field Hospital in Germany where she tended the severely wounded from Vietnam. After an honorable discharge from the US Army, she continued her nursing career as an LPN and went on to graduate from Corning Community College with her RN's licensure and worked at Willard State Psychiatric Hospital until she retired some 25 plus years later.

She was an active member of the Burdett Presbyterian Church where she was responsible for sending out cards ( birthdays, sympathy, anniversaries etc.) to friends and members of the church and their families. She also helped with Soup and Sandwich, which was a monthly fundraiser. She was a member of the Ladies Wednesday Afternoon Club, where she actively participated in the creation of a book called "Historic Burdett Celebrates 200 Years - 1819 - 2019.

JoAnn was an avid reader, sometimes reading three books a week. She was partial to Christine Feehan, JD Robb and Iris Johanson.

She was a big NASCAR fan (Dale Ernhardt). She would attend the annual NASCAR event at WGI right up until 2024.

She was a member of the Moose Club in Montour Falls, NY and the American Legion in Ovid, NY.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Burdett Presbyterian Church, 3995 Church St., Burdett, NY. Her funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm followed by burial with military honors at Union Cemetery of Hector.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the Burdett Presbyterian Church and/or the Burdett Fire Department.
