Juanita Mae Tomassi, 81, of Montour Falls, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017. She was born on May 18, 1936, the daughter of Helen and John Mathews. Juanita retired from Watkins Glen Central School as a cafeteria worker. She was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen, and a member of the Women of the Moose Montour Falls Chapter 1401. The love of her life, Helen Marie will greatly miss her. Juanita valued time spent with her family and friends. Her favorite pastime was to sit at the lake and be absorbed in the tranquility of her surroundings. She enjoyed Friday lunches at the Montour Moose Club with Helen Marie, Dave, her brother Michael, Uncle Frank, and loved ice cream cones. Juanita was predeceased by her parents, infant son Ralph, sister, Doris (Bill) Smith, and brother, John Mathews. She is survived by her daughter, Helen Marie (David) Starkweather of Montour Falls; brother, Michael P. (Patty) Bilinski of Watkins Glen; grandchildren, Christine (Bryan) Kurcoba of Elmira, David (Cara) Starkweather of Montour Falls, and Bryan (Mary) Starkweather of Wayne; great grandchildren, Shaun and Jordynn Kurcoba, Eliza Starkweather, Allison, Leah, Emily and Nate Starkweather; nieces and nephew, Teresa, Michael, Tammy, Lori, and their families; Heather (Jeremy Dawson), Molly Bilinski, Susan Smith Collins, Nancy Haner, and William Smith; great nieces and nephews, Madaline Bryerton, Hailey Smith, and Joseph and William Haner; and special cousin, Thais (Mario) Sarceni. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. A service will follow at 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Schuyler County, 124 Marina Dr., Montour Falls, NY 14865, or to a charity of one's choice.
