Kevin L. Root, 58, of Van Etten, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014. He was born in Montour Falls on September 29, 1956, the son of the late Elden and Shirley (Hartford) Root. Kevin is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Mary L. (Wheeler) Root; two sons, Kevin M. (Sarah) Root of Corning and Alex H. Root of Van Etten; a sister, Susan (James) Antes of Horseheads; three brothers, Albert E. (Charlene) Root of Rock Stream, Roger L. (Elizabeth) Root of Wellsville, and Stanley E. (Clara) Root of Muncy, PA; a grandson, Brody Root; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Elden K. Root, Jr. and Bernard C. Root. Kevin owned Root's Quality Construction for the past eighteen years and was also a commercial truck driver for several years. He was a member of People's Baptist Church in Newfield. Kevin loved sports, especially golf and football. He loved watching his sons play at various sporting events. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 from 12-2 pm at People's Baptist Church, 364 Main St., Newfield. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm at the church followed by burial in Cayuta Cemetery.
