Mabel I. (Bly) Wood, 93, of Alpine, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at home. She was born in Southport, NY on April 21, 1928, the daughter of the late Ellsworth and Jennie (Miller) Bly. Mabel graduated from Horseheads High School and attended Miss Beardsley's Private Business School. Mabel was secretary to the principal at Odessa-Montour High school for over 20 years. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Catharine and a member of Bone Builders. Mabel volunteered for the Schuyler Hospital Auxiliary, the Dutton Peterson Library in Odessa and for the Schuyler Historical Society. She also enjoyed quilting. Mabel is survived by her four children, Suzanne (Don) Learn of Horseheads, Sandra (Stephen) VanVoorhies of Groton, MA, Thomas (Pat) Wood of Alpine and Jennifer (Dr. James) Winkler of Montour Falls; 17 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward "Tim" Wood on May 7, 2009, and by her brother and sister-in-law Roy and Mae Bly. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 2:00 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church, 4938 County Road 14, Odessa. The family will provide flowers. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
