Mary M. Terry, 73, of Allegany, NY died peacefully at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility in Montour Falls, NY, on Thursday, November 2, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Pittsburg, KS to Joseph & Margaret Lavery and the oldest daughter of eight children. Mary moved to Allegany in 1972. After serving as director of a local nursery school, she spent over two decades teaching middle school English in Ellicotville, NY. She loved playing her favorite game Scrabble, cards, & book club chats with friends. She was active in the St. Bonaventure Church community, often volunteering at the Bridge. Her twice daily walks with her beloved dog, Sammy & their visits to the nursing home nearby brought smiles to all. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Jenny Frey, & the love of her life, husband John "Jack" Terry. She is survived by sons Jeff (Paige) Frey & Joe Frey, grandchildren Taylor Frey & Ryan Frey, and her in laws Phil & Lisa Miller. A Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Noon at St. Bonaventure Church, 95 E. Main St. Allegany, NY 14706. A reception at the Remembrance Hall will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Allegany Public Library.
