Obituary

Mildred Elizabeth VanZile Hall, of Alpine, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, her 96th birthday. Mildred was born in Cayuta, NY on February 4, 1919, the daughter of the late L.R. and Mamie Grover VanZile. She was predeceased by her husband Oscar Emery Hall, Sr., granddaughter, Terry Anne Plate Tarr; brothers, Jay and Rodney VanZile, and sister, Hildred Searles. She is survived by her son, Oscar Hall, Jr. (Joan); daughters, Marguerite Emery (John), Alta Plate, Marilyn Lockner (Harold); grandchildren, Jeff Plate (Cathy), Carrie Hall Walker (Jeff), Melissa Hall Gillis (Dave), Corrine Emery Morrison (Ray); great grandchildren, Jeffrey and Bradley Tarr, Shalind, Tyler, Nathan, Reise Walker; Lexi, Ryan, Riley Gillis; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. A longtime resident of Alpine, Mildred grew up on Connecticut Hill near Alpine. Her family was the last one to move off Connecticut Hill when the state took over the land. She attended Swan Hill School, Alpine School, and graduated from Odessa High School in 1936. She married Oscar Hall in 1937, lived in Cayutaville for a short time and then moved back to Alpine where she resided when she passed. Mildred worked for Westinghouse Corp. for 28 years, was past president of American Legion Auxiliary Post #676, Odessa, NY where she was a member for 67 years. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 1-2 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. A service will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family will provide flowers. Those who wish may make a donation in her name to the American Legion Auxiliary Post #676, Odessa, NY 14869 or Schuyler County Humane Society, P.O. Box 427, Montour Falls, NY 14865.
