Murlyn "Mert" Silliman, age 88, of Montour Falls, NY passed away at home on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Mert was born in the Town of Reading, NY on June 4, 1933, the son of Ernest and Emily Silliman. Mert graduated from Odessa Central School and served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. He worked maintenance at Watkins Glen Central School for 20 years and was the owner of Falls Woodcraft for 36 years. He was a devoted husband for 36 years, a member of the Mechanics Club and a natural-born story teller and local historian. Mert is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Winona (Welch) Silliman; daughter, Wendy (Tom) Zimmer; son, Steve (Gretchen) Silliman; stepdaughter, Petra (Bob) Carson; stepson, Joe (Julianne) Bond; thirty-seven and counting grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Ernest and Emily Silliman, he was predeceased by his wife, Irene Silliman and daughter, Sharon "Sharee" (Silliman) Angle. Friends and family may call from 2 pm to 4pm on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Vedder Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY 14865. A celebration of his life will follow at the Mechanics Club in Montour Falls.
