Ralph Leroy Hetherington, 91, of Reading Center, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Schuyler Hospital. He was born in Elmira on January 19, 1925, the son of the late William and Elsie Hetherington. He graduated from Elmira Free Academy and served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Phyllis (Arnold) on November 19, 1943 in Elmira. She passed away in 1988 after 44 years of marriage. Ralph was a self-employed mason and an antique collector and dealer for more than 60 years. He was a NASCAR fan and collected driver autographs. He also loved to hunt and collect beer cans. He was predeceased by his sisters, Virginia, Irene, and Dorothy. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Robert) Long of Reading Center; sons, Larry Hetherington, Sr. of Montour Falls, Dennis (Carol) Hetherington, Sr. of Youngsville, LA, Ralph Hetherington, Jr. (Brenda Beyrau) of Watkins Glen, Michael Hetherington, Sr. of Gillett, PA, and Pat Hetherington, Sr. (Cindy Presher) of Elmira; sister, Betty Devine of Elmira; 24 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other meaningful loved ones in his life. Services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:00 am at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery at a later time.
