Obituary

Rexford R. Hanville, Sr., 94, of Watkins Glen, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Guthrie Corning Hospital after an extended illness. He was born on May 31, 1921, the son of the late James A. (Salome) Hanville, Jr. He served with the US Army from 1940-1945 during WWII, and was stationed in Hawaii during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Rexford worked at Cotton-Hanlon and then for Coastal Lumber as a security guard for 45 years until he retired in 2001.He was a member of the American Legion Post 770 in Trumansburg for 20 years. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies. He loved his family and friends, and playing with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, James, Raymond and George Hanville and by his sister Sarah. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Louise) Hanville of NC, David (Molly) Hanville of Spencer, Roy Hanville of Cayuta, Rexford (Karen) Hanville, Jr. of Elmira, and Terry (Doreen) Hanville of Watkins Glen; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A service with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm on July 27, 2015 at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira.
