Richard E. Yaw, 64, of Montour Falls, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Cayuga Medical Center. He was born in Montour Falls on September 12, 1953, the son of the late Philip C. and Mary H. (Crout) Yaw and attended Odessa-Montour High School. Rick worked as a body shop manager for Wood Brothers, Zikakis, Garage de France and Maguire Ford in Ithaca throughout the 1980's and 90's. He later worked as store manager at Parmenter Inc. from 2000-2013. Rick enjoyed NASCAR, D.I.R.T. racing, and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He loved camping at Lake Bonin with family, watching Abby and Ky ride their bikes and was known as the "licorice man." He loved taking his grandchildren, Riley and Kayley, for ice cream. Rick enjoyed the time he spent with the Montour Falls Fire Department and was proud of his work as Fire Chief. He is survived by a daughter, Shelly (Kenneth) Kleist of Sneads Ferry, NC; a son, Christopher Yaw (Amy Yontz) of Millport; brothers, Douglas Yaw of Ovid and Philip Yaw of Corning; grandchildren, Abrielle, Kyran, and Kenneth III Kleist, Riley and Kayley Yaw; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Phyllis Smith, Evelyn Gascon, and Margaret Yaw. A special thank you to Richard and Susan Blaha for their support, care and friendship.
