Obituary

Robert G. "Jerry" Harnas, SMSgt. USAF Ret., 73, of Watkins Glen, NY, entered unto rest on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Jerry was born on August 18, 1949 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Ann Harnas and graduated from Watkins Glen High School. Jerry served with the US Air Force as a Specialty Aerospace Maintenance Superintendent retiring in 1994 after 25 years of dedicated service. After retiring from the Air Force, Jerry was an auto mechanic at several area dealerships. On July 22, 2000, Jerry married his wife Linda. Jerry was a member of the Odessa Conservation Club where he loved to share his knowledge of Hunters Education and Archery with local youth organizations. He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Linda (Bartone) Harnas; son, Robert Harnas; Linda's sons, Kevin (Afsana) Doane and Steven Doane; four sisters, JoAnn, Liz, Judy and Mary; five brothers, Tom, Dave Jack, Paul and Andy; three brothers-in-law, David and Michael Bartone, and Scott Blackwell; and a special grandson, Beckett Doane. A special thank you to Justine Clarkson from Arnot Ogden Medical Center for her continued care and support to Jerry and his family. A graveside service with full military honors will be held for Jerry on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Cemetery, State Route 14, Watkins Glen, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Schuyler County Ambulance, 909 S. Decatur St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891 or St. Mary's of the Lake Church, 905 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
