Obituary

Rose Ann O'Brien, 84, of Montour Falls, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at home. Born in New York City on July 19, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Pietra (DePeri) Realmuto. Early on in her life, Rose Ann worked as a secretary for several large corporations. In 1972, she and her husband Jim left New York City and settled on a farm in Burdett, where they raised their family and adjusted well to farm living. On the farm, Rose Ann learned a lot about raising farm animals, bailing hay and country cooking. In the early years after moving to the farm, Rose Ann did volunteer work and taught catechism at St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen. Rose Ann worked very hard alongside her husband as proprietors of the Town House restaurant for several years. She was a lovely hostess and was well known for making "The Best Manhattan". Rose Ann was an avid reader. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and took a great interest in their lives. Rose Ann was a friendly person and will be remembered for her beautiful smile. She was predeceased by her son, Steven O'Brien, and by her son-in-law, David Teeter, Sr. Surviving is her husband of 63 years, James "Jim" P. O'Brien, Sr.; five children, Debra "Debbie" (O'Brien) Teeter, James "Jim" (Julie) O'Brien, Jr., Jane O'Brien, William "Bill" O'Brien, and Francis "Frank" O'Brien; daughter-in-law, Sue O'Brien; ten grandchildren, David (Lisa) Teeter, Jr., Stacey Teeter, Jessica (Gerlando) Purpura, Stephanie (Jay) Parente, Michelle (Nick) Huber, Kelsey Olafson (Frank Ferro), Shelby Olafson, Michaela Olafson, Brandon O'Brien and Taylor O'Brien; twelve great grandchildren, Salvatore, Michael, Sofia, Luca, Giovani, Anthony, Timothy, Everett, Benjamin, Maddy, Lilli and Samantha; and by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. Rose Ann's memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
