Obituary

Roy E. Craver, 89, of Montour Falls, passed away unexpectedly at home on March 18, 2014. He was born in Montour Falls on May 4, 1924, the son of the late Donald and Carolyn Craver. Roy graduated from Cook Academy in Montour Falls in 1942. In 1945, with his wife Shirley, he purchased what would become the family farm, raising in addition to his family, white-faced Herford's and numerous other animals. Roy retired from S.C. Hansen, Inc., after a distinguished 36 year career in farm equipment sales. Second only to Roy's love of his family was that of his love for his community. He proudly served as Town of Montour Supervisor and board member for over 20 years, and was a staunch advocate for the residents of Schuyler County. Roy was a member of the Odessa United Methodist Church and the Odessa Lions Club. In his retirement, Roy and Shirley enjoyed extensive traveling to destinations all over the world. He was predeceased by his son, Steven A. Craver in 2006, and by a sister, Carol French in 1985. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Shirley H.; daughter, Claudia C. LaFace (Tim O'Hearn) of Watkins Glen; son, Martin R. (Robin) Craver of Montour Falls; brothers, Donald (Beverly) Craver of Blue Springs, MO, and Gordon (Patricia) Craver of Odessa; three grandchildren, Jessica J. (Kira) Craver, Teresa E. LaFace and Lisa (Kris) Lyons; step grandchildren, Brianna Davis and Alycia (Craig) Bianco; and three great grandchildren, Makenna C. Craver, and Kameron and Kaden Lyons. Roy's family would like to offer a special thanks to Evelyn Dillon-Thompson for her invaluable care and companionship during the last year. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-5 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. A service will follow at 5 pm. Burial will be in Montour Cemetery in the spring.
