Shirley Jane Cabeca, 85, of Alabaster, AL and formerly of Cayuta, NY, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center due to complications from COVID and COPD. Shirley was born in Cayuta, NY on September 19, 1937, the daughter of the late Richard C. and Adella M. (Wood) Collins and graduated from Odessa-Montour Central School in Odessa, NY. She proudly served with the US Air Force from 1957-1960. On February 12, 1960, she married Gilbert V. Cabeca in Birmingham, AL. He passed away in 1998. Shirley worked most recently as a court clerk with Tompkins County Surrogates Court in Ithaca, NY. She was a former member of the Odessa-Catharine United Methodist Church. She enjoyed puzzles, movies, traveling and flower arranging. Shirley loved to watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Shirley is survived by two sons, Brett R. Cabeca, Lance W. Cabeca and his wife Rachel Cook Cabeca all of the Birmingham, AL area; a sister, Nancy Collins-Tucker and her husband, Dixon Tucker of Norfolk, VA; and by five cousins, Kenneth Wood, Karla Edwards, William "Billy" Wood, Lawrence Wood and Carol Ann Wood. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY. Her funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial with military honors will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Odessa, NY.
