Thomas M. Vliet, 51, of Alpine, entered unto rest on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at home. He was born in Ithaca on September 28, 1966, the son of Douglas R. Vliet and Nancy L. Snyder. He graduated from Lansing High School in 1984. Tom married his wife, Tammy, on June 3, 2006 in Dryden. Tom was a mechanic for many years in the Cortland and Ithaca area. He was an avid sportsman and old car enthusiast. Tom is survived by his wife and loving caregiver of 11 years, Tammy J. Vliet; two daughters, Cassy Andrews and Jessica (Josh) Watson; two sons, Kody M. Vliet and Nicholas J. Vliet; his mother, Nancy L. Snyder; a sister, Chelsea Vliet; three brothers, Daniel Vliet, Bryan (Rebecca) Vliet and Jason Vliet; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Douglas Vliet, in 2008. A special thanks to Doc and Judy Mayo and the Schuyler Hospital Dialysis Unit. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Odessa Wesleyan Church, 304 Church St., Odessa. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
