Virginia A. Sever

Virginia Ann (Bonnell) Sever, age 86, of Montour Falls, NY, and formerly of West Seneca, NY, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026 at the New Falls Home Assisted Living Facility. Virginia was born on December 27, 1939 in Garfield Heights, OH to the late Alfred and Helen (Cash) Bonnell.

Virginia is predeceased by her parents; her loving husband of 42 years, Robert L. Sever (2003); brothers, Alfred Bonnell, Jr. (Lois), Roland L. Bonnell (Delores) and Robert Bonnell (Lois); and sisters, Carol Brzozowski (Eugene) and Laura Piontkowski (Peter).

She is survived by her children, Leslie Housh (Frank Housh) of West Seneca, NY; Mary Sever-Schoonmaker (Wayne Schoonmaker) of Lodi, NY and David Sever of East Aurora, NY; beloved grandchildren, Michael Sever, Kimberly Sever and Thomas Housh; sister-in-law, Margaret Sever, of Solon, OH; along with several nieces and nephews.

Virginia graduated from Garfield Heights High School with the Class of 1957, where she was the Head Majorette and played oboe in the school band. After high school, she worked as a telephone operator, prior to getting married. On June 3, 1961, she married her high school sweetheart, and she devotedly created a loving home for their three children in the years that followed. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and was quite skilled at crafting, sewing, quilting and crocheting. Reading and crossword puzzles were also avid pastimes, along with her great adoration of animals-especially cats.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Falls Home for their care and concern over the past 3½ years, and to the residents for the friendships they extended to our Mom. Her quality of life was so much greater due to her time at the facility.

There will be no formal calling hours or service. Burial will take place in the Spring, when she will be laid to rest next to her late husband at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lackawanna, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Falls Home Assisted Living Facility, 117 Schuyler St., Montour Falls, NY 14865 (Resident Activities Fund).
