Virginia Dann Tilden, age 92, of Appleridge Senior Housing, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016. Born Virginia Marie Dann, the daughter of Robert M. Dann and Helen Breese Dann, and the sister of Ronald Dann, also deceased. Ginny, as she was called, grew up in Painted Post, where she married Dunham Tilden of Brooklyn, NY on June 22, 1946. They settled on Long Island and raised a family. A graduate of Cornell University, she had a late-life career as a special needs teacher's aide for the Locust Valley NY schools and also volunteered for many years at the local hospital. She returned to this area in 2007. Her husband predeceased her in 1988. She is survived by two sons, Robert Tilden (Donna) of Montour Falls, Stephen Tilden (Beth) of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren, Danielle Tilden (Andy Wheeler) of Elmira, Brian Tilden (Michelle) of Horseheads, and Emma Tilden of Brooklyn. She has one great-granddaughter, Lindsay Tilden of Horseheads, and numerous Tilden and Dann nieces and nephews. She enjoyed friends and neighbors, the salt water beaches near her home, birds, flowers, woodsy walks, and the view of the distant hills from her porch at Appleridge. She had a special fondness for roses, and helped tend the rose gardens at the Planting Fields Arboretum gardens. Per Virginia's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Painted Post Historical Society.
