William F.
Griggs
November 30, 1943 – July 31, 2025
William F. Griggs, age 81, formerly of Cayutaville, NY passed away on July 31st at home in Warner, New Hampshire. William was born March 28th, 1944 in Trenton, New Jersey to the late Frank and Ellen Griggs.
William was better known to his friends as Bill. After graduating Notre Dame high school in 1962, Bill worked for the NJ Fish and Game department for six years before relocating to New Hampshire in 1969 with his then wife Patricia and their three sons Thomas, Michael, and Francis. He was then employed for another six years as a plant manager for Agway Fertilizer in Concord, N.H. He then worked as a building superintendent and later as the shipping supervisor for Yankee Book Peddler in Contoocook, N.H. where he met his second wife Carol. In 1986 Bill and Carol wed and moved to Alpine, N.Y. where they brought a daughter Katherine into this world. Bill recently moved back to New Hampshire to be closer to his three sons after he lost his wife to cancer in 2023.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman, a writer, a poet and a gifted musician. He taught his children how to fish and hunt. He loved to explore the back roads, beaver ponds, fishing holes, and tell stories with his kids wherever he went.
In the 1970's Bill played guitar and sang professionally at various establishments and corporate social events. He passed his musical interests to his children who sing his songs to this day.
He is predeceased by his first wife Patricia Kovacs, his second wife of 37 years Carol Griggs, and his younger sister Patricia Walter. He is survived by his older sister MaryEllen Whitney, his children from both marriages, and their families; Thomas Griggs and his wife Laurie Cass-Griggs, Michael Griggs, Francis Griggs, Katherine and Reed Fry. Bill was also a very proud and loving grandfather to his grandchildren Cody Griggs, Chloe Griggs, Mason Griggs, Sadie Griggs and foster grandchildren Tristan and Leah Green, and Noah Cass.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for William held on Wednesday August 13th 11:00 am at St. Theresa's in Henniker, New Hampshire. There will also be a graveside service held on Friday August 15th 10:00 am at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Odessa, NY. Memorial contributions can be sent to the American Lung Association.
