William 'Doc' Pylypciw, 91, of North Syracuse, died July 7, 2013. 'The Chief', as many knew him, was born in Johnson City and first came to the Watkins Glen area in the late 1930's when he was stationed at the CCC camp in Burdett. It was while there that he met Delores Bartone at a dance at the Grange Hall in Burdett. Bill and Dee married on July 11, 1942 and he was soon after sent to the Pacific for 22 months, working with a medical team on Wallis Island. Retiring as a Chief Petty Officer from the Navy after 22 years, Bill worked at the Syracuse VA Hospital and Hancock Field, as Supply Manager. After retiring from that work, he studied and became a Real Estate Broker and formed the company Plipsu Real Estate, keeping active until recent years. In his spare time he did carpentry, and was an avid fisherman. Over the years Watkins Glen was his second home, and he enjoyed visiting many of the local residents. Bill is pre-deceased by his wife Delores, as well as 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by one sister Olga Breswitz. Also surviving are his daughters, Janet (Jack) Hachmann of Liverpool, Kathy (Stan) Slingerland of North Syracuse, and son Billy of Watkins Glen, as well as 3 grandsons, and a great grand-daughter. There are also many nieces and nephews living in and out of the area. Friends and family will be received at the 'Link' at St Mary's Church on Friday, July 12, from 2-3. A brief prayer service will follow, and burial will be in Montour Falls Cemetery, with military honors. Arrangements are being made through Vedder and Scott Funeral Home.
